Where this started
Before there were mattress companies online.
In 1999, Nigel Cairns launched one of the first businesses in Britain to sell beds and mattresses over the internet. At the time, the idea that anyone would buy a mattress without lying on it first was treated as faintly ridiculous. Suppliers were reluctant to supply. Customers were reluctant to buy. There was no template to copy, because nobody had done it.
The company went on to become the UK's largest online bed retailer, and the model it proved — a broad range, honest specifications, delivery to the room of your choice — is the one almost every mattress website now runs on. Several of today's best-known names launched years afterwards, following a path that had already been mapped.
Twenty-eight years of watching which mattresses come back is what sits behind every recommendation on this site.

InstaMattress is SASO.
InstaMattress is operated by Saso UK Ltd, a Castleford-based mattress retailer trading since 2012, with a 10,000 sq ft showroom in West Yorkshire.

Most mattress websites copy the manufacturer's description onto a product page and add a star rating. We do something slower.

- StatedWhere we have physically tested a mattress we say so. Where an assessment rests on specification alone, we say that too.

If we suggest a medium-firm mattress you will see why: because at your weight a softer tension will bottom out inside two years, and we would rather tell you now than collect it in three months.
